In the place called Vermellas, at Boi Point, on 11th January 1890, the English coal steamer, registered in London, was shipwrecked. Its cargo was recovered.

The occupants of the hut that housed the policemen on watch were the first to learn of the tragedy.  At first, faced with the lack of crew, they thought they had died, but days later they received news that they had been rescued by another boat.
