On 30 April 1911, with fog as an accomplice, the Ciampa sank in Baleas de Tosto. The crew, safe in the lifeboats, had been able to see how the boat sank in the ocean. An hour and a half later, in the nearby inlet of Trece, the Trevidere succumbed.
