The Black Arrow was part of the spoils of war taken by the Allies from the Germans at the end of the first world war. It was covering the Havana – Bilbao route with 630 tons of general cargo, 52 passengers and 113 crew. It was ailing in the middle of a dense fog, at half-speed and sounding continually, until the sounding equipment broke, running aground at As Pías on 9 August 1929.
The rescue was carried out without problems due to good weather, and the boat was also recovered after some on-site repairs.
