The Prestige was a single-hull oil tanker that sank off the Galician coast, at about 25 miles off Vilán Cape, on 19 November 2002, causing a huge oil spill that affected a wide area ranging from northern Portugal to the French Landes, causing the biggest ecological disaster in the history of Galicia and social and political mobilization.
