Dique Francés

dique+frances

Name: Dique Francés
Type: Floating Dock
Nationality : French
Date : 03/05/1974
Place: Baleas de Tosto

In Baleas de Tosto, 3 May 1974, the floating dock belonging to the French Navy got stranded. It was travelling from Brest to Tahiti and had just left the shipyard. It displaced 25000 tons, and was 151 metres in length. It was being towed by the tugs Rhinoceros and Tenace during a storm, when the towing mechanism failed, leaving it at the mercy of the currents and gusts of wind, and it ended up crashing into Baleas de Tosto.

The ten men travelling on board were rescued by sailors from Camariñas. Despite the initial bad premonitions, the dock was saved and taken away to be repaired.<./p>
